Divisions: Varsity, Junior Varsity, Middle School, Elementary, Family
Competition Type: Individual, 100 Question Multiple Choice Exam, Duration of 40 minutes.

In buzzer-based competitions at the International History Olympiad, Western history comprises the majority of the questions. To give more emphasis to the history of South Asia, home to roughly a fifth of the world’s population, we are debuting an South Asian History Exam at the Olympiad.

The questions on the South Asian History Exam may be either more in line with the simpler approach featured in the questions on the Middle School and Elementary version of the Battery Exam or the more analytical approach featured in the questions on the Varsity and Junior Varsity version of the Battery Exam. Note that for syllabus purposes, this exam will cover all countries shown on the map on this page, as well as The Maldives and the Chagos Archipelago). A more specific distribution of eras in history and locations in South Asia will be forthcoming in advance of the Olympiad.

This exam will be given at 8:45am on Day 6 and can also be taken officially by students who are on buses en route to field trip destinations that morning.
